U.S. officials nab truckers at Ontario border with 483 kg of cocaine in trailer

U.S. border officials arrested two truck drivers attempting to smuggle hundreds of kilograms of cocaine into Canada.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers stopped a British Columbia-registered tractor hauling an Ontario-registered trailer on Dec. 16 at 2 a.m. going through the Blue Water Bridge entry point at Port Huron, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Michigan.

CBP officers X-rayed the vehicle headed for Canada and “identified anomalies in the rear of the trailer,” states an affidavit signed by a special agent for the Department of Homeland Security.

The bill of lading signed by the driver stated that the trailer contained 25 pallets of aluminium cans loaded in Colorado. It only had four pallets of aluminium cans. The trailer was loaded with several boxes, suitcases and luggage bags full of bricks of white powder.

Officers found 379 bricks weighing 483.79 kg of white powder that tested positive for cocaine.

Officials detained driver Abishek Jain and co-driver Satwant Singh Kaler. They are facing federal drug charges and have been taken to the St. Clair County Jail in Michigan. Charges have not yet been proven in court.

  • As a industry we need watch and stop drug movement both ways . Deportation of truck driver s involved in bad things is not the solution but real work of 60 hours per week in a. Prison labour camp for a number of years only if the person is found to have done so in a court of law. No matter if born in Canada or born in another country in my opinion. My concern is sometimes with preloaded trailers the truck drivers do not know what is in the trailer and a legal defense fund should be provided by the trucking company for all truck drivers in cases like this in my opinion.

  • I don’t think the race card means squat at the border. The government weigh scales may just send them on their way so they don’t get into the race issue with them but them border guards are the real deal. Hopefully they will deal with these problem people and let them know they ain’t that special. Keep up the good work CBP.
