Mars Auto looks to automate Class 8 trucks for $7K
Another company has joined the race to automate Class 8 trucks.
Mars Auto has commenced U.S. operations out of Austin, Texas. It aims to offer automation for just US$7,000 per truck.

“We’re pleased to bring our technology to the U.S.,” said Ilsu Park, CEO of Mars Auto. “Our model enables us to automate up to 99% of highway routes, lowering costs for companies while addressing driver shortages.”
It will be testing trucks on a freight corridor linking Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio, Texas. Mars said it will automate trucks and also provide transportation management.
“We simplify the entire process, from route planning to truck operation, easing the load for our clients,” says Park.
It says it can offer a low-cost alternative because it doesn’t require expensive high-definition maps or LiDAR technology. Mars uses a maples, vision-based approach like that of Tesla.
“We are focusing not on selling systems but on providing our customers with more efficient trucking services at a more affordable price through self-driving technology,” says Park. “With our ongoing efforts, our customers will soon be able to cut their per-mile trucking costs in half.”
