Ambassador Bridge traffic conditions online

WINDSOR, Ont. (Sept. 25, 2001) – The Ambassador Bridge at the Detroit/Windsor Canadian border has upgraded its website to include an hourly update of traffic conditions at the bridge. The website, www.ambassadorbridge.com, will be updated every hour, beginning at 6 a.m. through 10 p.m.

“Given the recent tragic events in New York and Washington, D.C., the Ambassador Bridge and its customers have had to adapt to enhanced security checks by U.S. Customs and U.S. Immigration, which are responsible for their respective staffing levels and procedures,” said Dan Stamper, president of the Ambassador Bridge. “These safety and precautionary measures caused lengthy traffic delays when they were first implemented. Now that numerous measures have been put into place to expedite traffic and customers are more prepared for security checks, delays are being reduced,” Stamper noted.

Ambassador Bridge officials have been meeting with industry representatives, U.S. Customs and U.S. Immigration to figure out ways to tighten security at the border without disrupting interstate commerce.

Drivers are asked to keep in mind the following reminders: Have I.D. ready before reaching inspection points. Commercial vehicles must turn on interior cab lights and open all interior drapes/blinds to sleeper area for easy inspection. Remain patient and follow the directives of bridge and government personnel.
