BCTA creates trucker HR task force

LANGLEY, B.C. (Mar. 28, 2005) — The B.C. Trucking Association has launched a task force made up of the group’s directors to provide direction on truck driver recruitment and retention.

In recognition of the growing qualified driver shortage, as well as gaps in other key areas, such as, technicians, the task force will provide advice and guidance to the Board on these issues.

The task force, which held its inaugural meeting on March 16, will deal with such issues as: training standards, licensing standards, promoting the industry to job seekers, trying to facilitate companies and workers to connect, and immigration as a possible solution.

It plans to meet every three weeks for at least the next four months so it can draft a detailed plan on making recommendations about BCTA’s role in trying to help members deal with the human resource shortage.
