CF talks to shippers on-line in real time

MENLO PARK, Calif. (May 7) — Claiming a big competitive advantage, Consolidated Freightways is the first transportation company to adopt a new technology that allows direct interactive ‘conversation’ with customers by way of the Internet.

Visitors to the CF web site (www.cf.com) can initiate contact with a company sales representative while on-line, or vice versa. By clicking an icon on CF’s rate quote page (www.cf.com/services/rquote.html), shippers immediately engage a sales rep for a more detailed consultation through a dialogue box on-screen.

“Our best sales and shipping experts now have another vehicle to deliver personal service, in real time, exactly when it’s needed,” says Joe Schillaci, CF executive vice president, sales and marketing. “While our competition is playing phone or e-mail tag, we will be on-line in direct communications with our customers.

“We are fully committed to e-commerce technology. Our real-time interactive e-commerce solutions simply make us easier to do business with.”

Schillaci adds that this two-way Internet dialogue enables CF to build personal relationships “in an environment that has been otherwise impersonal and one-sided.”

The technology was developed by NewChannel Inc. of Redwood City, Calif.
