Chinese Food for Thought: Euro firm reports on far-east trucking

SHANGHAI — Want to get a leg up on the Asian trucking scene? You could do worse than checking out this very comprehensive series of reports on the Chinese heavy-duty trucking industry.

The Irish company Research and Markets has announced the publication of “China Heavy-duty Truck Industry Report, 2007.”

For starters, the report says that 209,228 heavy-duty trucks were sold in China between January and May of this year, up 63.7 percent compared to the same period in 2006.

In fact, the heavy-duty truck market was the fastest growing sector of the entire automotive industry.

China also exported 7,948 units from January to April of 2007, up 19 percent over the same period in ’06.

The study also contains a comprehensive look at the growth of the Chinese economy, comparisons of the Chinese and other national truck industries, growth forecasts and tons of other information useful for anyone thinking of conducting business in that part of the world. Or — considering the tremendous growth of the Chinese economy — this part too.
