CTA-TC hook up on freight activity index

OTTAWA — Carriers across Canada are agreeing to participate in a monthly Transport Canada-conducted survey to measure the economic activity of the trucking industry.

According to the Canadian Trucking Alliance, the motion to participate in the Freight Activity Index was approved at a meeting in Calgary last year.

The electronic report will poll tonnage and the number of shipments and distance traveled.

CTA is appealing to carriers belonging to provincial associations to participate in the survey.

Transport Canada needs a" good representative sample of the trucking industry from across Canada" before it begins the survey.
