FLEX Air: Pete’s Air Suspension

Avatar photo

Peterbilt says its new proprietary “FLEX Air” tandem air suspension has the lowest installed weight of any comparable suspension-400 pounds less than Pete’s own Low Air Leaf.

Rated at 38,000 pounds, the suspension uses a weight-efficient structure consisting of a very stiff, lightweight aluminum beam with a small semi-elliptic taper leaf spring mounted at one end, and an air spring at the other end. Aluminum suspension brackets, shock brackets, and extruded air-spring support beams help save weight. Axle-seat weldings have been eliminated to ease axle alignment and pinion-angle adjustments. Rubber bushings at all pivots eliminate the need for lubrication, as well as reduce noise and high-frequency vibration.

FLEX Air is available now on Peterbilt models 379, 387, 385, and 378.

  • So we have a pet 387 I don’t know the exact amount of miles on the flex air but Saturday are driver lost the u bolts on the front driver side sure was lucky it didn’t happen on the pass or no on coming traffic as it had no problem slamming the system to the pavement…… I would think there would be a safety structure to axle to frame for this being a hard pull on the u bolts do to the axle being on the bottom of the flax air…..

Needless to say keep your driver’s inspecting u bolts daily it might save your life and the others on the road…..stay safe out there
