HALIFAX, NS- The federal government said they’ll give $242,721 to help attract more women into the trucking industry in the Atlantic provinces.

“Women and girls across Canada have enormous potential to contribute to their communities. The Government of Canada is investing in that potential with projects that do everything from preventing violence, to advancing women in non-traditional occupations. By positioning women to succeed, we all benefit,” said Canada’s Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women, Kellie Leitch.

The Trucking Human Resource Sector Council Atlantic will receive $242,721 in funding for its three-year project to increase the recruitment and advancement of women in the trucking industry in Atlantic provinces.

Trucking Human Resource Sector Council Atlantic is a non-profit organization made up of carriers and industry stakeholders in Atlantic Canada who are helping the trucking industry with different HR platforms.

In addition to the $242,721, Leitch also announced funding for three projects to prevent violence against women. In total, the feds said they’ll give $700,000 to support women in Atlantic Canada.
