Ice Road Truckers leaves viewers frozen in seats

ALASKA — Never mind worrying about whether the Lost crew will ever make it off that island for good.

Not only that, but some of us knew along who shot J.R.

Compared to a certain ongoing boob-tube intrigue that’s unfolding right now, those supposed cliffhangers are kids’ play.

We’re talking about the mystery behind Ice Road Truckers, which is entering its fourth year of production.

And the mystery is?

How do TV producers take what has to be one of the most boring and tedious and slowest-moving and safest jobs in the world and make it into an adventure-filled TV Show?

Whatever the formula is, it works, because the audience for this so-called reality TV show just keeps on growing grows each season, and in June, year-four begins.

Here’s what the producers are telling us about it:

This season: “The group of elite drivers, including legendary Hugh Rowland, Alex Debogorski, the lady of the Ice Road, Lisa Kelly, and two new drivers, will face their most difficult season on the ice.”

“This season, the hauls are the biggest they’ve ever had to undertake; so enormous that they must drive dual trucks in order to get these important loads to their destinations! [Exclamation mark courtesy of the publicists.]

“Drivers will also tackle the infamous Ice River, where fast-flowing water beneath the ice constantly weakens the road.”

Whatever.

Suffice to say Ice Road Truckers is a darn fine and very watchable show, right up there with “The Deadliest Catch” and “Dirtiest Jobs.”

If you want reality tv that’s actual real, watch the weather channel.

But for pure fun, then Season Four of Ice Road Truckers is totally worth tuning in for.
