IRD, Siemens Team on VDO

International Road Dynamics, the Saskatchewan-based developer of highway traffic management technology, is teaming up with Siemens VDO Automotive of Dearborn, Mich., to provide Siemens’ VDO-FM on-board computers and related diagnostic software for the North American commercial vehicle marketplace.

IRD will provide systems integration for the VDO unit with complementary vehicle management sensors and Identec Solutions’ communication systems, as well as installation and after-sales support.

The Siemens VDO-FM systems are installed inside the cabs of trucks and other commercial vehicles. It consists of an in-cab reporting system as well as a number of in-vehicle sensors and an RF transmitter. It assists drivers and fleet managers in monitoring a number of performance measures. This data can be provided in both real-time and as a data download for historic reporting and analysis of driver performance. The systems enhance fleet performance while improving the safety and security of vehicle operations, according to the company. The system was introduced in Europe in 1998.
