Government safety statistics tell us that about 13,000 trucks roll over each year in the U.S. The root causes of those rollovers are not always as they appear. It’s certainly not always a driver taking a corner too fast. Frequently, rollovers result from a loss of vehicle control. A recent study revealed that 53 percent of rollover incidents actually take place on straight stretches of road. Obviously, there’s something other than excess speed in a turn at play here.
The differences in the chain of events that set up a rollover incident play into why there are two different types of rollover prevention system on the market.
Joining us on this edition of Truck Talk are the authors of a white paper released by Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems outlining the differences in functionality and purpose between these two systems. Fred Andersky is the director of marketing for controls at Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC, and Rick Conklin is the product manager for the Bendix Electronic Stability Program.
