Mack, Volvo use Geotab to bring telematics to older trucks

LAS VEGAS, NV – Mack Trucks and Volvo Trucks North America have signed Memorandums of Understanding with Geotab, opening the option of telematics for older vehicles that are not currently connected with Mack’s GuardDog Connect or Volvo’s Remote Diagnostics.

The systems proactively monitor key truck components for critical fault codes including the engine, automated manual transmission, and aftertreatment systems. If a potential issue is detected, the software evaluates the code, develops an analysis for repair planning, and ensures repair instructions and parts are available, all while the truck remains in service.

Information about a potential issue is captured and communicated electronically through Volvo’s ASIST and MackASIST web-based tools that enable real-time communication between customers, dealers, and call-center staff.

Few details about the service were offered during a related announcement to industry press, but the support is expected to extend to Mack trucks as far back as 2010 Model Years.
