New Brunswick tightens paperwork requirements for log haulers

FREDERICTON (June 4) – Truckers hauling lumber and most other primary forest products in New Brunswick will be required to carry load slips indicating the species of wood, its source, and destination.

The regulation, which applies to trucks larger than 2500 kilograms GVW and hauling primary forest products over four feet in length (1.2 metres), takes effect July 1.

The new system is part of government incentives to encourage sustainable private woodlots in New Brunswick.

“The load slip system will not impact what private woodlot owners do on their land,” Natural Resources and Energy Minister Doug Tyler said. “It will help prevent the theft of wood from private woodlots and provide better information to marketing boards in determining the actual harvest levels occurring on private woodlots.”

Load slips as well as new forest inventory data, silviculture funding, property tax rebates, and enhanced education for private woodlot owners were announced by the province earlier this year.

Load slip books will be issued free of charge. Additional information may be obtained at any district office of the Dept. of Natural Resources and Energy or the DNRE Forest Management Branch: 506/453-2432.
