New parking lot for truckers near Confederation Bridge

BORDEN, P.E.I — The province of P.E.I has opened a new parking lot for truckers in Borden-Carleton for when the Confederation Bridge closes to high-sided vehicles, reported The Guardian

Requiring an investment of $330,000 on the part of the province, the parking lot has space for up to 75 trucks and is close to facilities.

When the bridge closed in the past, trucks were forced to line up along the Trans Canada Highway. This was unsafe and very inconvenient for truck drivers said Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal Ron MacKinley.

Shane Esson, chair of the Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association, congratulated the province on the project. “…[T]ruckers will now have a safe and comfortable area close to the bridge with nearby facilities where they can rest until the bridge re-opens.”
