There’s never been a better time for business to go to the dogs. Great Dane Trailers is rolling out a trio of new products this summer–a lightweight refrigerated trailer, a steel and aluminum platform trailer, and a tough lining for trailer interiors.

The new reefer is the Super LT, available in 48- and 53-foot lengths. Made at Great Dane’s Brazil, Ind., and Savannah, Ga., plants, the Super LT makes liberal use of aluminum: on the sides, roof, top and bottom rails, side posts, and on the 10-inch scuffband (16- and 22-inch bands are options). A band of extruded aluminum wraps around the front of the trailer and the corners to protect against impact damage and rust, and five-inch-deep aluminum crossmembers are strategically placed under the bay area (the extra inch of height contributes to a higher live-axle floor rating and a stiffer, stronger crossmember without increasing weight).

The cooling unit frame is made of aluminum, too–extruded J-channel, which saves 50 pounds over traditional steel frames. Standard flooring is a 1.38-inches deep, non-ridged, extruded aluminum duct floor fully welded to seal out moisture. A full-width floor sill over each crossmember is standard. Apitong hardwood is used as floor sills along the full length of the trailer to give the floor extra support.

TOUGH SKIN At the Mid-America Truck Show in March, Great Dane debuted the Super LT with a protective interior lining called PunctureGuard. First produced by Great Dane as a scuffband, the polypropylene material is now available as a van liner in 0.100-inch-thick panels and as a reefer liner in 0.050-inch, 0.070-inch, and 0.100-inch-thick panels.

PunctureGuard attaches with recessed fasteners and is impervious to moisture, won’t deteriorate like wood liners, and stays pliant over time, so it won’t set or curl away from the walls after repeated trips across on the forklift. Another bonus: the panels can be heated and reformed, which makes them easy to repair.

FREEDOM FLATS Great Dane’s new Freedom trailers are designed as “in stock” flatbeds for dealers. The straight frame and drop-deck platforms are a combination of steel and aluminum, offering competitive weight and price without sacrificing strength and durability. At 102 inches wide, Freedom flatbeds are available in two specs: 12-inch crossmember spacing for extra strength in forklift operations, and 16-inch crossmember spacing for heavy-hauling where the trailer weight must be kept to a minimum. The Freedom drop deck has a deck height of 40 inches.

Freedom flatbeds are designed for easy modification at the branch or dealer with add-ons like toolboxes, tire carriers, bulkheads, winches, and straps. They feature an integral winch track, and their modular construction makes repairs easy.
