OTA Bud Barr scholarship approaching

TORONTO, (May 4, 2004) — The Ontario Trucking Association is reminding students that June 30, 2004 is the deadline for applying for the OTA Bud Barr Scholarship Fund.

The scholarship provides financial assistance to university or college-bound sons or daughters of OTA member company employees who are having a tough time making ends meet as the result of illness injury or death of their parent.

OTA is making available $5,000 per year — for two scholarships of $2,500 each. Recipients will be determined based on need. Applicants must be under 25 years of age and enrolled or registered to attend college or university on a full-time basis.

To be considered for the scholarship, recipients must be Ontario residents and have a family member who has been employed (or in the case of an owner-operator contracted to) an OTA member company during the previous 12 months. The scholarship is administered by the OTA Education Foundation Inc.

The award is named in honour of Bud Barr in recognition of his lifelong commitment to educating the trucking industry’s offspring. Mr. Barr is the current head of the OTA Education Foundation Inc., a registered non-profit organization and a retired former owner and senior manager in the Ontario trucking industry.
