On Sept. 10, the city approved two temporary use permits (TUPs) for truck parking on city-owned land, allowing the proposal to proceed to public notification.

One site, located at 17768 96 Ave. in the Anniedale-Tynehead area, would provide 41 parking spaces for trucks, while another site, at 13134 115B St. in Bridgeview would offer an additional 36 spaces.

The city plans to introduce four truck parking locations across city-owned properties. In March 2024, the council approved licence agreements with Prudential Transportation for multiple sites totaling approximately 150 parking spaces. The council will vote on the TUP approvals after the public notification process is completed.

“We have taken a significant step towards addressing the urgent need for truck parking spaces in our city,” said mayor Brenda Locke in a news release.

“As we advance plans for these two new sites, we’re committed to ensuring that our truck drivers have the facilities they need to operate safely and efficiently while balancing the needs of the community. It is vital we address this issue because I have often said trucking is our economy on wheels. This is just the beginning, and we look forward to initiating plans at additional sites in the near future.”
