WASHINGTON — Truck crashes that your rigs are involved in — even when they are not your fault — will still count against you in your CSA scores.

That news comes despite promises to the contrary from the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration (FMCSA).

As recently as a month ago, the FMCSA said that it would be amending regulations so carriers can challenge the use of crashes in which they were not at fault in determining Crash Indicator Scores.

Then last Thursday, the FMCSA announced it is responding to pressure from several special interest groups and “pulling back” on its plans to change the formula.

The news was greeted with dismay by stakeholders, including the American Trucking Associations (ATA).

According to a statement from the ATA, the organization will be “redoubling its efforts to get the agency to quickly address the ‘questions’ raised so that it can move forward in implementing a reasonable process.
