The Fleet Safety Council (FSC) recognized Tara Whiteman of Kriska Transportation Group (KTG) as a provincial safety professional of the year. During the 33rd FSC’s annual conference in Brampton, Ont., she received a $2,500 cheque from TruckRight, which sponsors the award.

“I’ve worked in the industry for roughly about 30 years, and in that 30 years, I have not met somebody like Tara Whiteman,” said Guy Broderick, safety and training supervisor at Kriska.

“She started out as a driver at Kriska, and then she migrated into a safety role. I truly haven’t met somebody that has care and compassion for other drivers, as well as for other co-workers. When you look at the criteria for senior professional leader, she fits by far.”

The award recognizes individuals who provide exceptional service to their TSC chapter, the transportation industry, and their community or employer. Recipients must maintain high personal integrity, and, if necessary, show bravery in highway incidents. Strong rapport with drivers, a commitment to outstanding training, and the effective implementation of new safety initiatives are essential, along with a track record of promoting transportation safety and communicating daily safety messages.
