Jim Park: So now we’ll go around to the back of the building. We’ll show you a braking maneuver, as well as some low-speed maneuvering that this truck can do now. Pretty cool.

So up ahead, my target is a little white car. It’s actually made of foam rubber or it’s inflatable.

The EBS is going to stop us before I hit the back of the car. So I’m at 21 miles an hour right now. Both my feet are firmly planted on the floor, and as we approach, there goes the alarm. Four-way flashers come on once we’ve come to a complete stop, which you can hear tick-tick-ticking away, and we’re not going anywhere. So we just averted a possible collision with this target.

Now, this works at full speed as well, although the stopping distance might be considerably longer. But for the purposes of this demonstration, you can see, I brought the truck safely to a standstill before I actually struck the car.

Oh, and the parking brakes have applied. Assuming this was an actual emergency, with my four-way flashers on and my parking brake set, this truck’s not going to be getting into any more trouble after avoiding this collision.

To get out of my little predicament here, I just have to put the transmission back into neutral, put it into reverse to back away from the car. The brakes release by themselves, and I back away like nothing ever happened.

And down the road I go, hoping the safety department doesn’t catch the video.
