COLUMBUS, Ind. - ACT Research has reported strong Class 8 truck orders in December, which when seasonally adjusted, amount to the best month since April.

ACT reports 30,293 units were ordered in December, bouncing back from a soft November.

Medium-duty orders remained consistent. ACT said there were only 3,000 units separating the best and worst months of 2011 and December's numbers fell somewhere in the middle.

The latest figures are revealed in ACT's State of the Industry report.

"We think November's drop in Class 8 orders was circumstantial, rather than fundamentally derived," said Kenny Vieth, president and senior analyst at ACT. "Part of the order drop in November was a significant spike in cancellations. To that end, part of December's net order strength was a plunge in cancellations to their second lowest level in 2011."
