Changes in store for Alberta WCB
EDMONTON, Alta. — Alberta’s much maligned Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) will undergo a facelift today, in response to two damning reports which called for change.
The WCB generates more complaints each year than any other government department, and injured workers routinely say they get shafted by the system.
More than 50 changes have been recommended, and many of them are expected to be part of the report released today by the Ministry of Labour.
Some of the suggestions which may be followed up on include creating an independent appeals process, reviewing dismissed cases dating back to 1988 and creating a separate group to review case manager assessments and financial transactions, including payments to workers and costs to employers.
