ICBC announces policy changes
VICTORIA, B.C. — The Insurance Corp. of B.C. (ICBC) is advising truckers to take notice of several recent policy changes.
One recent update to the regulations involves lowbed semi-trailers. Oversized lowbed drivers may now drive empty without altering their lengths as long as the trailer is no more than 18.3 metres long with a maximum wheelbase of 15.25 metres. Previously, lowbed drivers were expected to reduce empty lowbeds to shorter lengths. Current pilot car requirements are still in effect.
Other changes include the use of tridem drive tractors, lowbed semi-trailers and booster heavy haul combinations. Permits are now available nine-axle heavy haul combinations in preparation for an increase in 85-ton heavy haul highway routes currently in the works.
In other ICBC news, the Ministry of Transportation has updated the approved routes for overload permits involving trucks with a Gross Vehicle Weight between 64,000 and 85,000 kg.
ICBC has also approved the use of the tridem tractor/quadaxle trailer hauling short logs configuration, but under permit only.
