Trucker finds missing girl
MONTREAL, Que. — On Saturday, Montreal truck-driver Gabriel Arseneau went on a $1,000 shopping spree courtesy of Schreter’s clothing store and an anonymous donor, after he helped find a missing teen.
“This is too much for me — it’s overwhelming,” says Arseneau. “It’s like Christmas, Easter and New Year’s all rolled into one.”
The spree was organized by Sun Youth Organization after the non-profit agency received several offers to reward the 42-year-old trucker for his good deed.
Arseneau was on his way to work last Wednesday morning when he heard a radio news report about a special-needs girl who was missing.
As he sat in his car, waiting for his dispatcher, he spotted a girl standing alone on the street.
The 15-year-old girl approached his car to talk to him, but he couldn’t understand her as her family recently immigrated from Sri Lanka.
Arseneau drove the teen to a nearby police station and returned to work. He says he has been shocked at the fuss over the rescue.
“I’m surprised — I figure anyone in my shoes would do the same thing,” he says. “When I felt best was when I brought the girl to the police station and then, later, heard on the radio that the girl had been found by a truck driver.”
