Construction on Highway 404 in Toronto

TORONTO, Ont. — Highway 404 is being widened from four to five lanes in the southbound direction between Van Horne Avenue and Highway 401.

The work also includes the construction of an underpass to connect the new southbound lane on Highway 404 to the Highway 401 westbound collector lanes.

The widening will allow for the future designation of the new lane as a high-occupancy vehicle lane — reserved for buses and vehicles with two or more occupants. To minimize disruption to motorists during construction, lane and ramp closures will take place outside peak hours.

Construction start date: September 9
Construction end date: Fall 2005
