BROOKS, Alta. — Increasing truck traffic is one reason behind a $12.5 million upgrade on the Trans-Canada Hwy. near Brooks.

A grade-separated interchange will be built at the TCH and Cassils Road. The project will be cost-shared between the province and the feds under the Strategic Highway Infrastructure Program.

"I am pleased that federal funds from the Strategic Highway Infrastructure Program are being used to upgrade key highway links in Alberta," said Federal Transport Minister, David Collenette. "These improvements to the Trans-Canada Highway will enhance safety for motorists and its capacity to move goods quickly and efficiently."

The site of the new interchange currently averages 7,500 vehicles per day, 25 per cent of which are trucks. That’s higher than the provincial average of 14.5 per cent truck traffic.
