Alberta announces funding for provincial highways
EDMONTON, Alta. — Alberta has announced it will invest more than $2 billion in its provincial highway network over the next three years.
Transportation Minister Ed Stelmach tabled a three-year program outlining construction and rehabilitation projects in the provincial Legislature last week.
“Alberta’s commitment to a safe and efficient provincial highway network is demonstrated in the three- year program,” said Stelmach. “A significant portion of the program is dedicated to completing the North-South Trade Corridor and enhancing highways in rural areas.”
There are 126 projects included in the program. They include: Completion of twinning Hwy. 11 west of Red Deer; continued paving of Hwy. 881; twinning of Hwy. 21 south of Hwy. 16 to Hwy. 628; improvements to Hwy. 22 north of Cochrane; paving of Hwy. 88 from Bear River to Fort Vermilion.
Also, Calgary’s Deerfoot Trail will receive $220 million in upgrades while Edmonton’s Anthony Henday south-west extension linking Hwy. 2 to Hwy. 16 will get a $128 million facelift.
