VANCOUVER, B.C. — Cummins Westport, a joint venture of Cummins Engines and Westport Innovations, says it has completed the first multiple-truck delivery equipped with ISX-G heavy-duty engines.

The multiple-unit delivery involved 14 Peterbilt heavy-duty trucks to Sanitary Fill Company in San Francisco, a subsidiary of Norcal Waste Systems. The first of the Norcal trucks was delivered in August and already has logged more than 20,000 miles.

The final truck was delivered yesterday, more than a month ahead of target. Sanitary Fill has ordered nine more trucks with low-emissions, ISX-G natural gas engines for delivery in the second half of 2002.

“We’re very encouraged by the exceptional early performance of the ISX-G, which is demonstrating combustion so clean that we may be able to extend oil change intervals,” says Guff Muench, president of Cummins Westport. “Oil change interval extensions could provide savings of several thousands of dollars to fleet operators over the lifetime of a vehicle.”

The ISX-G is Cummins Westport’s natural gas version of the highly successful 15-litre Cummins ISX heavy-duty diesel truck engine. The ISX-G, the first product with Westport HPDI technology, demonstrates diesel-like power and fuel efficiency, according to the company, but with lower emissions than comparable diesel fuel engines and with lower fuel costs — in areas where natural gas is less expensive than diesel fuel.
