Former truck route designated no-truck zone
SURREY, B.C. — Vocal Surrey residents have gotten their wish – there will be no more truck traffic on 32 Ave. near Morgan Creek.
Complaints have been filing in about truck traffic along the residential street that is home to several schools.
The area was formerly designated a truck route, but now City Council is talking about putting up “No Truck” signs and enforcing the new ban.
“There is definitely potential for a fatal accident,” says local resident, John Timms. But then he addressed what is perhaps the major underlying issue: “Truck traffic reduces property values.”
Another resident chimed in at a recent council meeting complaining that “Engine breaks roar despite bylaws prohibiting them.”
A 78-name petition was presented to council, who in turn decided it was time to make the route off-limits to semis.
TransLink chairman and Surrey Mayor, Doug McCallum, says “It’s probably one of the fastest growing areas in the Lower Mainland, there’s no need for trucks along it.”
There is still no word on where the truck traffic will be re-routed.
