Inspection policies may change at Windsor tunnel
WINDSOR, Ont. — The Windsor Tunnel Commission voted yesterday to call upon the Canadian and U.S. governments to introduce a "reversal inspection" program.
The move would see drivers questioned by Customs agents before entering the tunnel, rather than at the other end.
"There’s no reason to view this other than being proactive," says Commission member Charlie Hotham.
Gordon Jarvis, president of the Detroit and Canada Tunnel Corporation (DCTC), adds "It addresses concerns by customers who are saying ‘We want to be safe and we want to feel safe when we go through your facility.’"
Although DCTC is prepared to make the change of policy, they can’t do so without government approval.
