European manufacturer to double output of electric vehicles by year’s end
NEWCASTLE-UPON-TYNE, England — Electric vehicle maker Tanfield Group plans to double output this year to meet growing demand from emissions-conscious customers, according to a report by Reuters.
Tanfield currently assembles five vehicles a week, but will make 10 a week by the end of the year and 30 next year, the report said. Exports, which make up about 15% of its electric vehicle division sales, are also expected to rise and account for 40% to 50% of sales next year.
At present, Tanfield offers a variety of electric vehicles, including a 7.5-tonne Newton truck, a 9.0-tonne variant and a 12-tonne vehicle scheduled to launch shortly.
The companys clients include delivery firm TNT and British retailer Marks & Spencer, which has said it could replace part of its diesel-fuelled fleet with electric-powered trucks made by Tanfield. Its vehicles are also being trialled by other companies, including Starbucks and DHL.
