MTA honours nearly four decades of safety

WINNIPEG, Man. — Three outstanding drivers honoured by the Manitoba Trucking Association together have contributed more than 38 years and 4.5 million kilometres of driving to the motor transport industry that keeps the Canadian economy moving.

The MTA recognized Manitobas Drivers of the Month for the second quarter of 2007 at an awards reception on Aug. 17.

Driver of the Month Awards recognize professional drivers whose careers demonstrate excellent driving skills, exemplary safety records, outstanding customer service and a dedication to the profession.

Driver of the Month for April 2007 is Jake Unger, a professional driver for 14 years. During that time, Unger has driven more than 2.7 million accident-free kilometres of city, highway and winter roads, across Manitoba, Western Canada and the northern US. Unger drives for Penner International and lives in Kleefeld.

Driver of the Month for May 2007 is Keith Larter, a Winnipeg driver and employee of Bison Transport. Driving professionally for 12 years on highway roads, Larter has logged more than 1.6 million accident-free kilometres between Canada and the northern US.

Driver of the Month for June 2007 is George Lazic. For 12 years Lazic has been a Winnipeg pick-up and delivery driver. In that time he had accumulated more than 200,000 city kilometres and has been accident-free since 2001. Lazic drives for Reimer Express Lines and lives in Winnipeg.

MTAs Driver of the Month awards have recognized outstanding Manitoba drivers since 1979.
