Fleets endorse new dispatch course
CALEDONIA, Ont. – Following a three-month pilot project, participating carriers have endorsed a new training regiment aimed at both new and experienced dispatchers.
Kim Richardson Transportation Specialists (KRTS) will be one of the first training facilities to offer the new program in Canada, but before it decided to do so, the school arranged for a test run with MacKinnon Transport, Veri Transportation Logistics and Dakota Oversize Transportation. All three have since endorsed the program, which was originally developed by the U.S. Truckload Carrier Association.
“Dispatch is the liaison between the driver, company and the bottom line,” says Kim Richardson, KRTS president.
“The dispatcher has been ignored, in most cases, for too long when we talk about education.”
The half-day program was developed at a cost of US$800,000. It uses real life scenarios constructed around building driver rapport, tracking drivers and loads, communication skills and providing both driver and customer support.
