Robert Transport Opens New Facility

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – Robert Transport celebrated the official opening of its new facility in Mississauga Dec. 1. President and CEO Claude Robert and family welcomed some 175 guests to a harvest-themed event that saw crates of giveaway apples from the Robert Rougemont orchard, and freshly baked apple pies for the guests.

Antique and modern Robert-owned trucks were also on site. The family-owned and operated carrier employs over 2,400 people and dates back to 1946.

The 195,000 square foot facility, located at 300 Statesman Dr., employs over 200 administrative, warehousing and driving personnel. It includes a 155,000 square foot dry warehouse space, 20,000 square foot refrigerated space and a 20,000 square foot cross-dock facility.

“With the new Mississauga facility, Robert Transport can provide warehousing, distribution, truckload and LTL services to the Ontario, Quebec and U.S.A. markets. All of this has been possible because of all of our customers who have been supporting us over the years, and hopefully will continue to do so in future,” said Claude Robert.

Robert thanked guests as well as Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion, who presided at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“It is really wonderful to see a family company continue to operate after all these years. Behind every successful organization is the staff. We’re delighted to have this large operation now move to Mississauga. We hope you’ll become a part of the community,” said McCallion.

Robert plans to keep the company in the family, with son Michel as executive vice-president and daughters Isabelle and Julie handling executive responsibilities.
