U.S. government unlikely to make HOS law: Sandberg (June 01, 2005)
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The head of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration said the truck-safety agency was unlikely to succeed in convincing Congress to write driver hours-of-service regulations into law, a move FMCSA had sought to insulate its rule from lawsuits.
FMCSA Administrator Annette Sandberg told a congressional panel last month that the agency was “not betting on” getting its embattled hours-of-service rules codified in long-term transportation legislation Congress is considering.
She said that if Congress did not act, the agency “would still need to continue” work on writing a new rule.
The new rule would be due out in September.
