Surface transport rates increase in August
TORONTO, Ont. — Surface transportation rates for Canadian shippers went up 0.8% in August, compared to July results.
The base rate, excluding accessorial charges, was up 1.5% month-over-month. The average fuel surcharge assessed by carriers also increased, from 18.78% of base rate in July to 19.63% in August, according to the Canadian General Freight Index.
“This increase was seen in all segments of LTL and TL for domestic and cross-border freight,” said Doug Payne, president and COO of Nulogx, which compiles the index. “However, base freight costs are now within 2% of August 2011.”
