Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) has announced a major investment into its Detroit Manufacturing plant in Redford, Mich.

DTNA is putting US$285 million into the project and will add more than 400 new jobs at the site, while also receiving financial support from the state of Michigan.

The expansion, DTNA said in a release, will continue to support the production of existing technologies there, while also enhancing research and development activities.

“Our Detroit Manufacturing Plant, with its legacy of over 85 years in Michigan, stands as a testament to innovation and progress,” said Matt Pfaffenbach, vice president of powertrain operations

“This expansion is about more than just innovation; it’s about creating job opportunities and upskilling our workforce to meet the demands of tomorrow’s technology, while helping to stabilize the heavy-duty supply chain. This transformative project will propel us into a new era of manufacturing excellence while strengthening our role in the industry and bringing significant growth to the community we call home.”

The investment will modernize the plant for ongoing production of internal combustion engines and related components. It will also be home to R&D for new clean technologies.

Construction will begin early next year, Daimler said.
