Challenger to build single 51-acre terminal

CAMBRIDGE, Ont. (July 18, 2003) — Challenger Motor Freight is looking at consolidating its four local terminals at a single location after purchasing a 51-acre property in its home base of Cambridge, Ont.

While the company is still working out building approval with the city, Challenger — one of Canada’s largest for-hire carriers — hopes to create a terminal on Maple Grove Road that would include a 45,000-square-foot administration and driver-amenities building; a 44,000-square-foot maintenance facility; and a separate 8,000-square-foot safety, fueling and inspection facility by next summer.

Challenger’s administrative building, dispatch, special commodities division, and parking centre are currently located across four local sites. Challenger operates more than 1,150 trucks, 3,500 trailers, and employs about 1,500 people.
