SmarTire, Haldex sign distribution partnership

RICHMOND, BC, (Oct. 14, 2003) — B.C.-based SmarTire Systems has announced that it has signed a co-development and a supply agreement with Haldex Brake Products.

The two companies will engage in a joint development program to integrate SmarTire’s tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) with Haldex’s brake systems and create commercial vehicle products for marketing and resale by Haldex for both OEM and aftermarket applications involving trucks, trailers and buses.

“Offering tire pressure monitoring to our customers falls exactly in line with our mission to provide innovative and technically sophisticated solutions for increased performance and safety,” Haldex Brake Products president Robert Else said in a press release.

With new tire monitoring regulations pending in the U.S., the agreement allows SmarTire to introduce its TPMS technology through a “worldwide distribution channel to the commercial trucking market.”
