Westcan to set up major ops center in Saskatoon

EDMONTON – Westcan Bulk Transport recently announced plans to centralize the company’s dispatch operations to their Saskatoon Terminal.

The Edmonton-based bulk hauler says the move is part of an ongoing effort "to improve utilization of resources and enhance business processes."

The Saskatoon Terminal will undergo extensive renovations starting in February of 2009 to accommodate the new ops center.

The transition of dispatch positions, which currently operate out of eight Westcan locations throughout Western Canada, is scheduled to begin this April. The center is expected to be fully-operational by the end of 2009.

“We see the operations centre as a business expansion opportunity for our Saskatoon terminal and a positive step forward for the company as a whole. The creation of new jobs will provide an economic benefit to the city of Saskatoon,” said the carrier’s CEO Tom Kenny.
