Canada Cartage takes over Walmart Canada’s fleet business

by Today's Trucking

Canada Cartage has acquired Walmart Canada’s fleet business and will deliver to more than 400 stores across the country.

Walmart Canada chose to divest its fleet business so it can focus on its Canadian growth strategy, strengthening its store network and supply chain. For Canada Cartage, the acquisition strengthens its dedicated business.

“Our acquisition of Walmart Fleet reflects our commitment to expanding our network and bringing dedicated fleet transportation solutions to more customers across Canada,” said Scott Lane, president, Canada Cartage.  “This move positions us for long-term growth while providing the talented employees joining us from Walmart Fleet with more opportunities to develop long-term careers and thrive in a fleet-focused environment.”

“This decision is part of our broader growth ambitions and strategy to focus on what we do best: delivering value to our customers,” added Matt Kelly, vice-president, supply chain, Walmart Canada. “We are confident fleet employees will benefit greatly from Canada Cartage’s leadership. They’re very well respected, and we know their culture is the right fit for fleet employees and our business.”

Canada Cartage plans to run the fleet as a dedicated operation. The deal is expected to close within a few weeks.

  • I am as driving Walmart truck for almost 5years proud to be Walmart team and thank them for the respect and many others things they did.
I hope Canada cartage do the same things for as as fleet members but I don’t heard any good things about the company anyways good luck and all the best to them.

  • Whoa! One of the best fleets in Canada with a very happy workforce is being taken over by Canada Cartage? Hard to believe. Their service to stores will be greatly affected, negatively that is. Canada Cartage doesn’t pay well, and driver turnover is super high.

    • This is why we need to limit foreign workers including truck drivers to the higher wage stream .This will mean that truck drivers who delivers to Walmart stores in Canada will possibly only make half what Walmart truck drivers make in the U S this is a very bad thing in my opinion. I think Canada Carthage should not be able to get bigger or use foreign students as truck drivers until all wage and lease op complaints are looked by the government

  • Think things where bad driving for walmart?
Just wait now Canada Cartage is involved, it’ll be nothing more then a downhill slide, I’ll say more

  • My take on this is:
The Walmart Team was viewed by us drivers and small fleet owners as safe and professional. Canada Cartage… not so much. Everyone in the Industry knows C. Cartage does not pay well drivers and owners operators alike.

  • Good luck. I, as well as my dad, was on the Loblaws account for CCS and went mileage instead of hourly. Our work stayed the same but pay was cut by about half.

  • Safeway BC. trucking bought by Canada Cartage a few years back and drivers now working for much less than Safeway BC. paid originally

  • The big playersnumber one priority is to keep the wages low. I heard that Walmart are the highest paid in the industry that will change pretty quick its a sad reality but that’s what they do
