Trimac celebrates 80 years in business
Trimac Transportation celebrated 80 years in business this week, with an event at Heritage Park in Calgary, Alta.
It plans additional events through September to celebrate its employees. The company started as MACCAM Transport in 1945 in Moose Jaw, Sask. It was founded by Jack McCaig with a single Model A Ford truck.

The company grew through the 1950s when sons J.R. ‘Bud’, Roger and Maurice joined the business and led its expansion across Western Canada. The company acquired H.M. Trimble & Sons in the 1960s and rebranded itself Trimac, relocating to Calgary.
The business went public, then was returned to the private ownership of the McCaig family in 2000. Today, the fleet employs 4,000 people and operates more than 6,000 tractors and trailers across North America.
“For 80 years, we’ve safely delivered products that improve people’s lives,” said Matt Faure, president and CEO. “What makes us most proud is the way we’ve done it, by investing in our people, innovating with purpose and never compromising on safety or service.”
Last year, it was named 2024 North American Safety Champion by the National Tank Truck Carriers, recognizing it as the safest tank truck carrier in North America.
“Our history is a story of resilience, relationship and respect,” said Jeff McCaig, chairman of the Board and member of Trimac’s founding family. “While the industry has changed dramatically since 1945, one thing has bever wavered: our people are our greatest strength.”

will I be there U think to Trimac celebrations
My history with Trimac started in 1959 when I started riding with a H.M.Trimble driver stationed in Blairmore, and he first let me drive when I turned 17 in 1961 and got my Class A (now Class 1) license. He was a fantastic teacher, and I could only hope to turn out as good as he was. (He was risking his job as all this was strictly against company rules). For the next 40 or so years I drove periodically for several different lease operators until 2002 when I had four tractors on with Trimac hauling coal from the Line Creek mine north of Sparwood to Lafarge in Exshaw. That lasted for until 2010 when I sold the contract an retired. Throughout those I found Trimac to deal with, paid very reasonable rates with many bonuses (subsidized fuel rates, reasonable insurance costs, and never a question about getting paid in full and on time for every load hauled. In talking to lease operators for other companies I have never heard of a better company to work for. Lorne Ulmer was the best person I ever worked for, as was his successor, Irene Friesen.
The icing on the cake was the opportunity and honour in 2017 to meet and talk with Maurice McCaig. A true gentleman’s gentleman.
Spent 32 years at Trimac 301/2 as a lease operator 11/2 as a company driver great company to work for.
My Father worked for HMT and Trimac in the 60’s
I worked with Trimac , having them as a competitor, supplier, and role model for many years.
They were good people in all those roles.
Congratulations on their 80th!
