Detroit adds active braking to side guard monitors

Detroit is expanding the Detroit Assurance suite of safety systems to include Active Side Guard Assist (ASGA) – offering support from an electronic co-driver during low-speed, passenger-side turns.

Beginning production this September, ASGA monitors moving objects in the path of a right-hand turn at speeds under 12 mph and will apply the brakes if needed. This, Detroit says, will improve safety at intersections and truck yards alike.

Combined with Active Brake Assist 5, equipped trucks will fuse radar and camera sensors that are always on.

If a pedestrian or cyclist is detected, a yellow warning triangle appears on the right side A-pillar. And if a driver sets the right turn signal or actually begins a turn, the yellow warning turns red, an alarm sounds, and brakes engage.

ASGA is an option on Freightliner Cascadia and Western Star trucks that have Detroit Assurance with ABA 5.

Side Guard Assist – limited to warnings alone — was originally launched in 2020, warning drivers about moving objects along the passenger side of trucks.
