Lightning eMotors electric chassis promises higher weight ratings

Lightning eMotors has worked with Metalsa to develop a rolling chassis for commercial electric vehicle applications.

It’s available for Class 4 and Class 5 commercial electric chassis cabs, stripped chassis, and cutaway chassis, and can accommodate different battery sizes and configurations, powertrain integrations, and wheelbases.

The chassis itself will support gross vehicle weight ratings about 1,500 lb. heavier than average platforms on the market today, Lightning eMotors says. That, the company adds, can mean higher passenger and payload capacities for electric ambulances, shuttle buses, delivery and refrigerated trucks, and work trucks.

Pre-production is scheduled to begin in the second quarter, with production planned before the end of the year.
