Macks get standard predictive cruise with econo-roll

by Today's Trucking

Mack Anthem and Pinnacle trucks now come standard with Mack Predictive Cruise Control with Econo-Roll.

The predictive cruise combines the mDrive automated manual transmission with GPS, monitoring speed, engine load and road topography, and memorizing the conditions when the cruise control is set. When drivers travel the same route again, predictive cruise chooses the optimal gear for fuel efficiency.

The system can store up to 4,500 routes, and Mack says it will increase fuel efficiency by up to 1%. And it doesn’t need a constant GPS connection.

When approaching a hill, predictive cruise allows the truck to travel at a slightly higher speed, and the mDrive AMT maintains the highest possible gear to prevent downshifts to crest the hill. Econo-Roll temporarily disengages the driveline before the downhill descent. Once the predictive cruise identifies where the gradient will even out, the truck maintains its speed for the next incline.
