LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Ancra International has developed a new flatdeck trailer cargo bracket that allows fleets to meet new FMCSA tie-down standards. The new load securement regulations don’t allow loads to be secured by using rub rails as cargo anchor points. Ancra’s GlideLock slides onto the main rail of any flatbed underneath the rub rail, where it can capture and lock in any standard flathook strap.
The aluminum brackets weigh just over three pounds each and are capable of handling 5,000-lbs.
“Because rub rails are a weak point of the trailer and not rated for load securement, cargo secured to rub rails can become loose, shift and lead to spilling,” Ralph Abato, national sales manager for Ancra, explained at the Mid-America Trucking Show. “It also can lead to violations and fines. GlideLock is a proven solution to both of those issues.”
Abato said many carriers have been fined under the new FMCSA regulations for using the rub rails as an anchor point.
“Most people are still securing to an unrated rub rail which is the weakest link in the chain,” Abato said. “When you loop a strap over a rail, it’s not completely secure. We are getting a lot of phone calls from people who are getting fined.”
Abato said the GlideLock is “the easiest and fastest method of securing freight on flatbeds.”
The GlideLock slides onto the rail of virtually any flatdeck trailer. It can be slid up and down the length of the rail to the desired positions.
