Hayes to close plant

SOMERSET, Ky. – Hayes Lemmerz International, an auto-wheel maker that sought bankruptcy protection in December, says it will close here. The facility is still making aluminum wheels, but that’s expected to change by the end of March. The closure will result in pretax expenses of $10.7 million, including $6.3 million in its fourth quarter ended in January.

  • Closing that plant was a blessing. They had aluminum shavings 6-foot high all over the plant with coolant leeching out the overhead door. The management screamed and cussed at their employees. Candidates were not reimbursed for agreed-upon interview expenses. Rental trucks were lined up to take freshly cut wheels to the airport. I personally saw and experienced this, all of it, twice. What a trashpit. Worst management in the automotive industry..
