CTA asking industry to voice support for EOBRs

OTTAWA, Ont. — CTA has introduced a text message campaign to let federal MPs know that owners and drivers support electronic on-board recorders (EOBRs).

CTA has supported an EOBR mandate for all trucks where a paper logbook is needed, as they can easily be used to monitor a driver’s Hours-of-Service.

“Paper logs are an ineffective and archaic way to monitor compliance with the hours of service regulations for both the regulators and the industry,” said CTA CEO David Bradley. “If the rules were introduced to combat driver fatigue and we’re serious about making our highways safer, then the MPs need to get behind an EOBR mandate.”

Letters can be sent by texting ‘eobr’ to 77777. French letters can be sent by texting ‘eobrfrench’ to 77777. Those interested in their voicing letters of support online can do so by visiting www.cantruck.ca/eobr.

If they mandate this, then all carriers should be required by law to pay drivers, including long haul drivers by the hour with over time after 10 hours at least.
