B.C. Highway Patrol is investigating after a commercial vehicle hit the Gilmore overpass and partially shut down eastbound traffic on Highway 1 in the area.
The overpass strike occurred on Feb. 5 at 12 p.m., in the far-right merge lane, according to a news release. There is no visible damage to the overpass and traffic should not be delayed for an extended period.
Commercial vehicles hit overpasses, bridges and infrastructure on 29 occasions in British Columbia in 2024.

B.C. Highway Patrol is in contact with B.C. Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement officers who will determine what enforcement actions will be appropriate.
This is the second infrastructure strike this year in the province. A Flatbed Logistics vehicle hit a tunnel on Hwy. 1 in Glacier National Park on Jan. 6.
The CVSE website states the cause as carrier/driver error, no permit and failed to measure load. The carrier was suspended and violation tickets were issued. The suspension was lifted Jan. 23.
